Children soak up messages all the time from the world around them. From a very young age, they learn about being a boy or girl, their body and rules about behaviour. If they learn about these topics from a trusted adult, they are more likely to learn accurate and helpful messages.
All Glasgow City Council establishments will now introduce the accurate terms for private body parts. They have done this because children need to have a common language that they have permission to use and that is accurate. As a result of this, staff are being encouraged to use the correct terms for body parts when speaking to children and passing on information to parents.
You will already be teaching your child protective messages everyday- road safety, for example. Within our parent's room you will find booklets and information posters about using the same, everyday, approach to teach your child that their body belongs to them.
